Yankee Bookshop, 1936

The Yankee Bookshop, Vermont’s oldest continuously operated independent bookshop, was first opened in November 1935. It has had several owners (Kari Meutsch and Kristian Preylowski officially became this historic shop's eighth owners in February of 2017) and locations. This photo dates from 1936 and the bookstore shares its space with the Elm Tree Press on Elm Street.

The Elm Tree Press had a long and distinguished run. Although it no longer exists as a business, the Woodstock History Center maintains the imprint and publishes it booklets/books with it.
