This booklet provides a brief overview of a hundred years of bicycle culture, from the 1870s to the 1970s, in the town and village of Woodstock, Vermont and beyond.  Over that time, the bicycle has touched most everyone’s young and adult lives. There have been myriad ways that bicycling has shaped the American culture. It has been used as a means of social revolution for women, helped improve our roads, defined childhood experiences, improved our connection to the outdoors, and created a foundation for innovation and design in recreation.

There are now incredible improvements in the bicycle arena, with new bicycle designs and recreational possibilities. This is a continuation of the many decades of innovation and cultural impact that bicycles have had both nationally and in local communities such as Woodstock.
