Ralph Adams Cram (1865-1942) stood at the top of the America architectural pyramid from the 1890s to the 1940s. The first architect to appear on the cover of Time Magazine Cram designed 100s of churches across the US as well as many colleges and other buildings. His major style was various incarnations of the Gothic though he also worked in the Colonial and classical idioms. A devoted Episcopalian he was a prolific author and founded several magazines focusing on churches wrote 25 books and hundreds of articles. This talk, by noted architectural historian and professor Richard Wilson, will treat Cram’s career with special emphasis on the Gothic as in St. James’s in Woodstock.
