Old Time Fair 2022

Rat Race, in which wind-up toy rats race to the finish line, is just one of many games at the Old Time Fair.

On Saturday, September 10, from 1-3 PM, the Woodstock History Center will be hosting its 7th Annual Old Time Fair. This family-friendly event features old-time games, hands-on crafts, live music, food, and a photo booth with historic clothing. Admission, as well as all the games, activities, and food, are just 25 cents each.

The Old Time Fair is similar to Woodstock’s Rotary Carnival, which was the highlight of the summer for many children growing up in Woodstock in the 1950s and 1960s. While the History Center’s Old Time Fair does not feature a “Duckem Booth” or a “National Turtle Derby” like the Rotary Carnival, it does feature similar simple games, like pick-a-duck and plinko. As guests play these games, they can win tokens that they can then exchange for prizes at the “Token Exchange Booth” or for food.

In addition to games and food, other attractions at the Old Time Fair include various craft projects which are being graciously organized and sponsored by Artistree, The Norman Williams Public Library, and Sculpture Fest. These crafts will include such things as using old-fashioned-style potato stamps and working with clay.

New this year for the Old Time Fair is a magic show, which will be held at 2 PM.  Magician Blaine Goad will perform a number of illusions, and then —at the conclusion of the magic show—offer a short workshop for all those who are interested in learning how to do a simple “magic” trick that they can then perform themselves.

In addition to the crafts and magic show, other highlights of this year’s fair include live music by Trifolium, and a face painting booth that is sponsored and staffed by the Congregational Church.

Such a large event as the Old Time Fair would not be possible without the assistance of the community.  The sponsors for this year’s event are: The Liswhit Foundation, Mascoma Bank, Bloods Catering and Rentals, The Woodstock Inn, Casella, The Prince and the Pauper Restaurant, and Tuesday and Dennis Wright. It is because of the generosity and support of this amazing group of businesses, foundations, non-profits, and private individuals who serve as volunteers that the Old Time Fair remains an affordable event that is open to everyone.

The Old Time Fair will be held, rain or shine, on the Woodstock History Center’s back lawn, located at 26 Elm Street in Woodstock. To learn more about the Fair, please go to: www.woodstockhistorycenter.org.
